    Interface Engineering

    Lym Consults has considerable experience in the complete lifecycle of an engineering project, covering;

    • Mechanical Systems
    • Electrical Systems
    • Control & Instrumentation
    • Computing Systems
    • Fire Protection
    • Hybrid Systems

Effective “Systems Design Engineering” requires a detailed knowledge of a diverse range of characteristics of the system coupled with a fundamental understanding of the requirements of its various stakeholders, throughout all project phases as illustrated in the diagram below.

At all stages of the project lifecycle, Lym Consults has proven experience. Lym Consults canprovide consultancy support to aid the design of an entirely new system, the modification of an existing system or plant decommissioning.

Lym Consults provides comprehensive high- value, specialist, consultancy based support services to clients, whereby we help manage and facilitate the overall process, paying particular attention to critical stages to ensure ultimate success.

Often called “Interface Engineering”, we work closely with the client and the equipment designer/provider, if necessary, to ensure that the final product evolves in a manner which fully satisfies the requirements of all stakeholders in terms of time, cost and quality.

At all times our focus is on delivering cost effective and pragmatic solutions which are compliant with the ALARP principle where appropriate.

The diagram below shows the typical support we can provide to a project. We can offer this capability via specific work packages or via a complete service for the total project lifecycle. With Lym Consults' wider engineering and business risk management experience, we are able to blend these tools and skills together with this complete project support capability to ensure that safety assurance activities are adequately and sensibly integrated throughout the entire project lifecycle.

This ensures that the system evolves in way which is wholly compliant with all relevant standards and legislation, as well as stakeholder expectations; whilst ensuring that, at all times, this can be appropriately demonstrated.

Lym Consults has extensive experience in the production and review of the Safety Case documentation required to implement engineering and procedural changes, and of regulatory liaison.

    SYSTEM REVIEWS

A key component in ensuring the ongoing health of a system comes from regular system reviews. There is often a requirement in high hazard industries to step back from the ongoing operation and maintenance activities and review the plant performance to identify trends representing system problems. Lym Consults offers a range of services aimed at improving the health of systems operated and maintained by its customers. Such activities will result in improved system reliability and availability.

  • Assessment of current and future obsolescence issues.
  • Review against standards.
  • Plant walkdown Operator/Maintainer information collection.
  • Operating experience andmaintenance records review.
  • Maintenance procedures and frequency review and recommendation.
  • OBSOLESCENCE MANAGEMENT

As the pace of change in today's engineering environment rapidly accelerates many system owners are struggling to support the systems they operate. Building upon its system review capability, Lym Consults offers a number of services aimed at managing system obsolescence and prolonging the useful life of systems and their associated components. This capability is offered to those clients who may wish to maximize their high capital investment systems or in situations where system replacement is not a straightforward option. Lym Consults offers a proven capability in this field.

  • System review and component vulnerability analysis.
  • Identification of systemstabilization or replacement strategy.
  • Recommendation on bestpractical system or component replacement option.
  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Project management is now broadly accepted as engineering discipline of its own right, with its own unique set of tools and methodologies. Lym Consults' consultants have a significant amount of experience in the application of the tools and methodologies required to successfully deliver engineering projects to time, cost and quality; ranging from multi-million dollars, multi-discipline projects to multiple small value projects.

Lym Consults' consultants seek to employ best practice methodologies such as Prince II.

  • Proven “Cradle to Grave” Project management support capability.
  • Capability to support the management of multi-billion dollar, multi-discipline projects.
